WHY WAS THE ROLE OF SPARTACUS RECAST?
Andy Whitfield gave up the role due to a resurgence of non-Hodgkin lymphoma cancer, giving Liam McIntyre his blessing. He unfortunately lost his battle with cancer and passed away on September 11, 2011. Liam McIntyre will be playing the role permanently.
WHY WAS THE ROLE OF NAEVIA RECAST?
Lesley-Ann Brandt’s character of Naevia was recast with Cynthia Addai-Robinson due to several conflicting reasons. Lesley’s manager released information saying that Starz wasn’t offering Lesley enough money, ‘“She’d like to go back, but they really haven’t gotten the number we’re looking for.” He said she would reconsider “if they step up.”’
Later Lesley refuted this statement via her facebook, stating that it was not about money but what was best for her career.
After this Lesley stated via her twitter that the reason she would not be returning was due to scheduling but that she wished the new actress all the best. Cynthia Addai-Robinson was cast as Naevia.
WHERE CAN I WATCH THE SHOW?
With the nebulous nature of what is happening with the internet currently I cannot keep track of which places are working and which are not. If you live in America 2.01 is available for streaming on the Starz website and I believe that if you’re a Starz subscriber you can watch the whole series on the site.
I personally watch on TMN in Canada, where the show airs on Sunday nights at 10pm. It airs in the UK at 10pm on Monday.
